Healthcare is evolving from a simple search for treatment into a journey of discovery and healing. This is where health tourism comes in. Health tourism is a global phenomenon where individuals travel outside their country of residence to receive a specific healthcare service. This includes not only treatment for an illness but also a wide range of services aimed at improving quality of life, aesthetic enhancement, or preventive care.

What Does the Health Tourism Department Do?

As the Health Tourism Department of our hospital, we aim to provide comprehensive and personalized services to our international guests who seek healthcare. Our core responsibilities include:

Consultation and Information: We provide detailed information about our healthcare services, treatment options, and processes. We assist our guests in determining the most suitable treatment plans for their needs.

Travel and Accommodation Arrangements: We organize all logistical processes for our guests, from their travel and accommodation to in-hospital transfers and companion needs.

Treatment Process Management: We closely monitor all treatment processes from hospital admission to discharge, guiding our guests by maintaining continuous communication with doctors and nurses.

Translation and Cultural Support: We offer professional translation services for our guests from different linguistic backgrounds and facilitate their adaptation process by considering cultural differences.

Supportive Services: We also provide support for post-treatment follow-up, rehabilitation, and any other additional services that may be required.

Fields of Health Tourism

Health tourism covers a wide spectrum and offers services in many different areas. Some of these fields include:

Medical and Surgical Treatments: Specialized surgeries and treatments for chronic diseases such as heart surgery, oncology, orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, organ transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, obstetrics and gynecology, plastic surgery, and general surgery.

Thermal and Spa Tourism: Physical therapy, rehabilitation, and stress reduction through natural mineral waters.

Aesthetics and Beauty: Cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery, and other procedures for beauty and rejuvenation.

Traditional and Complementary Medicine: Traditional and modern methods such as acupuncture and phytotherapy.

Elderly Care and Rehabilitation: Long-term care, physical therapy, and special programs for the elderly.

The Difference Between Health Tourism and a Tourist’s Health

The concepts of health tourism and a tourist’s health are often confused, but they refer to two different situations.

Health Tourism: This is a completely planned process. It involves individuals traveling to a healthcare facility outside their home country with the specific purpose of receiving a planned healthcare service (e.g., surgery, aesthetic operation, thermal treatment). These individuals undertake this journey with a pre-existing health need or desire. Our hospital’s Health Tourism Department provides specialized services to patients who come for treatment under this scope.

A Tourist’s Health: This concept covers unexpected situations. It refers to a person needing to seek medical care at a hospital as a result of an unexpected illness or accident while traveling abroad for a vacation, business, or other purpose. These situations do not typically involve planned healthcare; they involve interventions for acute or sudden health problems. Our hospital, of course, provides the best possible healthcare to all foreign nationals who experience sudden illnesses or accidents under the scope of a tourist’s health.

In both cases, foreign nationals are provided access to healthcare services, but the key distinction lies in the primary purpose of the trip and whether the healthcare is planned. Our hospital prioritizes international standards of service quality and patient safety in all situations.
